<itunes:summary>Hurricane Gustav was an extremely devastating storm. As it plowed over Cuba and moved into the Gulf, it became apparent that Gustav wasn't going to hit the East Coast of Florida. So, new plans were made, and when Cory Lopez flew into to Tallahassee from California, Alek Parker, Peter Mendia and Shea Lopez started the 8 to 10 hour drive to Panama City, Florida from Shea's house.Gustav was all about timing. Like most of these Hurricanes there is a very short window for surf and Gustav was no exception. Watching the swell fill in, to sleeping through the midnight peak of the swell, the crew still managed to get most of what this storm produced. Big outside A Frames in the Gulf to small but fun glass, Gustav delivered a variety pack of waves, and the crew made the most of it.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Several years ago, fed up with traveling to the same old places to document surfing, photographer Dustin Humphrey and filmmaker Taylor Steele had an epiphany. Though they'd spent much of their lives in airplanes, hotels, rental cars, and aboard boats, had they really seen the world? Hawaii, Australia, and Tahiti had already been thoroughly covered, but what about Italy? Egypt? Yemen? Kenya? Sri Lanka? India? Canada? Russia? Cuba? They realized that while surfing has proliferated since the days of Bruce Brown's Endless Summer, traveling surfers had grown comfortable and complacent. It became obvious to the pair that it was time to follow Robert Frost's advice and literally take the road less traveled.Through their shared realization a true connection occurred, and they formed a pact to explore those parts of our planet steeped in culture as well as waves. They decided to scrap the old surf-travel strategy of fly in, surf, fly out in favor of true exploration of a culture - physical, spiritual, musical, and emotional. Ten-day trips were replaced with two-month sabbaticals. They gave up the "sure to score" mentality that had dominated surf travel for decades in favor of a more rhythmic journey into the heart of a place. They recruited their friends, many of whom happen to be the biggest names in surfing, to join them on their odyssey into the unknown. They agreed with Mark Twain's philosophy that travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and they set out to discover the places few surfers ever considered. They were "sipping jetstreams."</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This year we got to follow from up the very first GLOBE WCT FIJI--voted best surf contest on the planet by the ASP surfers--with another event blessed with filthy surf and standout performances. Dubbed the sickest event on the planet, the contest went down between May 21st and June 1st, 2006, with Damien Hobgood taking the top honors. We approached this year's event with two goals: 1. Make sure we don't mess up a good thing; and 2. Put a Globe stamp of fun on it. To this end, we spent a great deal of energy setting up the proper dynamics for all the non-surfing elements around this event, knowing the surfing was going to be sick anyway. We brought together a diverse group of commentators, with Americans Jamie Brisick, Steve Zeldin and Chris Cote mixing it up with the Aussies, Sean Doherty, Ronnie Blakey, Nathan Webster and Derek Reilly.Perhaps the most important change we made this year was the introduction of the first annual Tavamotu Challenge (the Quest for Cote's Bar Tab)--an inter-island challenge between the surfers on Tavarua (traditionally, the Americans and Hawaiians) vs. the surfers on Namotu (the Aussies). In the contest anything goes, where the contestants are judged on anything from fishing, tennis, golfing and surfing to drinking, streaking, poor sportsmanship and fool play. Coach Cote judged the whole thing and it is anything but your usual surf contest dribble.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Pipeline Masters is the remarkable story of the groundbreaking surfing competition that has, since its inception in 1971, defined extreme. Held in the fearsome tubes of Hawaii's Banzai Pipeline, the Masters stands alone as the sport's most popular, prestigious competitive event. Because for over 35 years there has been only one surf contest where the winner earns more than money, more than fame or ratings point, but rather the surfing world's most coveted title: Pipeline Master.

There's Gerry's Era, and Gerry's Army, the Free Ride Generation and the birth of backside tube riding, Simon Anderson's spectacular three-fin Thruster debut. There's Michael Ho's broken wrist wonder, Tom Carroll, and The Snap, Sunny Garcia's Three Knockdowns. There's the Rise of Kelly Slater and the Frontdoor/Backdoor wipeouts, nail-biting competition and the sort of drama that can only come when you pit the very best against the very worst: some of the most deadly, hairy, out-of-control waves ever seen. Pipeline Masters captures it all: the history, the action, the legends and lore - the soul - of the greatest surfing event ever.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Isn't it strange that no two surfers have the same exact approach to a wave? It is an extension of character and every one is different. In the making of Separate Volume, the intention was to show how each member of the Oakley surf team is unique. A lot of these surfers have never been in the spotlight or even been seen outside of a magazine. This was their chance to shine.Separate Volume also delves deeper into surfers that you have seen hundreds of times - but still know nothing about. Nathan Fletcher has voices in his head that make him travel the globe and surf to a different tune. In typical Hawaiian Style, Dustin Barca has fought for everyone's respect and it is undeniably evident in his surfing. You will see Brent Dorrington who, at only 17, has that natural surfing style that echoes a young Tom Curren. Chris Ward's unbridled power and mix of wild abandon produces spontaneity in every aspect of his surfing and his life.Sure, the film was shot in exotic locations around the world looking for world-class waves. But, that isn't what Separate Volume is about. It's about being different. It's about being unique. It's about surfing to your own Separate Volume.Separate Volume features Dustin Barca, Chris Ward, Brent Dorrington, Adam Melling, Nathan Fletcher, Aaron Cormican, Brian Conley, Adriano De Souza, Dave Weare, Shane Beschen, Tom Whitaker, Flea, Royden Bryson, Nick Rozsa, Evan Geiselman, Makua Rothman and friends. Filmed on Location in Indonesia, Australia, Mexico, Tahiti, Maldives, Florida, West Coast and Hawaii and shot in 35mm and Super 16mm.</itunes:summary>

But today, there is no standard; there is no norm. There is only a group of surfers that are going their own way. FIN is an examination of the current state of the art, a time in surfing culture when surfers are compelled to ride whatever they want in order to facilitate a style that suits them best. FIN is a study of the end of one mentality, a look at the current epoch of surfing history, and a celebration of a time in surf culture when what you ride means nothing, but how you ride it means everything.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Hot Buttered Soul was a revolutionary four track LP released by Isaac Hayes and the Bar-Kays in 1969. A few months later, 20-year-old Terry Fitzgerald, fresh from a Hawaiian winter season and a big fan of funk and soul rhythms, decided to borrow the name for his surfboard company. But all three words didn't quite fit on the rainbow sash logo. Thus Hot Buttered Surfboards were born - and with it one of surfing's true originals. But the third word never went missing. Instead it's lived in the handmade, hand-painted HB surfboards and the styles that arose from riding them, over three decades, in the best surf on the planet.Hot Buttered Soul: The Movie draws on a deep well of surf cinema heritage to present the surfing of the HB extended family. Choice selections from HB's "Sultans of Speed" series, along with surf flick classics Morning of the Earth, A Winter's Tale, Fantasea, Storm Riders and more, are expertly intercut by editor Mick Waters, with interviews and commentary from Andrew Kidman and Derek Hynd. Wherever they went, "Sultans" trips always had the knack of scoring amazing waves. Viewers will be stunned by the NSW north coast sessions of '88, when in an outrageous 10 day binge, Poto, Simon Law, Cattle and Deaney surfed all the classic pointbreaks at their maximum size and shape. They'll also freak at Joel's hair-raising couple of bombs at a terrifying Irish reefbreak, and wallow in the pleasure of perfect Periscope Point on Sumbawa, Indonesia, before the surf camps arrived. Then the movie swings to a down home sequence that sees Terry, Kye and Joel head back to Jeffreys Bay on a family trip with some timeless TF equipment, including Driftas and wing pin single fins, and ride 'em into the ground at J-Bay and the rarely glimpsed Cape St Francis.Yet underlying at all is the still-astonishingly fresh lines and torquing style of TF in the 1970s, blowing away the world at Jeffreys, Rocky Point, Uluwatu and various lesser known locations. It's a sublime treat watching today's power surfing at its moment of invention. The unique soundtrack, featuring ex Tamam Shud guitarist Tim Gaze in front of a six piece band, was written, practiced, and finally recorded as a single 59-minute free-flowing piece, in sync with the movie's final cut. It's an inspired enhancement to inspired footage. -Nick Carroll</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Flavours is a high performance surf movie featuring top Indonesian and foreign surfers alike, tackling some of the largest and seemingly most perfect swells of 2006. Flavours proudly deliver complete surf sections of Indonesian talents, a rare occurrence in any other international surf film production. Flavours invites the viewer to witness Indonesian surfers match up against top world professionals like Andy Irons, Jamie Obrien, Josh Kerr, Mikala Jones and Dave Rastovich ; to mention a few. There will be exclusive interviews with central figures of the film, documenting how Indonesian surfers look upon their position in the world of surfing and what they predict for future generations. The islands of Indonesia are widely known as a united surf nation, continuously expanding their surf power identity. Since the early 1930's, a colorful array of surfers, filmmakers and photographers have traveled across the globe particularly to experience the thousands of miles of coastline that Indonesia has to offer. Today, not only the waves but also the local surf talents of Indonesia have become focus points in the world of surf media. The backdrop to this seemingly straightforward film is the complex country of Indonesia, defined by contrasting images: one with idyllic beaches, reefs, and of paradise; the other of a nation troubled by natural disasters and terrorism. Flavours aims to show the world that Indonesia is a safe location for foreigners and that there are good reasons to carry on traveling to Indonesia.Flavours is shot exclusively around the islands of Lombok, Sumbawa, Sumba, Java, and of course, Bali - all top tourist and surf destinations. Apart from the striking natural scenery, these locations offer some of the most consistent and challenging waves in the world today - and it is for this very reason they produce and attract such brilliant surfers....</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Believe strikes another blow for the common surfer, a quiet, reflective statement of pure surfing devotion, as epitomized in the lifestyles of a fascinating cast of characters. The messages in Believe are simple and timeless - ride whatever kind of board fires your imagination, regardless of design fashion trends. Respect your elders, tend to the young, cherish the everyday, do what you love. It's refreshing to see the great soul surf documenter Andrew Kidman on the other side of the lens for a change, explaining his philosophies on surf, music, art, design and family, and witness him ripping on his fish with a raw power and style that belies his gentle art making sensibilities. As well as the illuminating Rasta, Albe Falzon, Chris Brock, Neal Purchase and Kidman sections, there are also insightful vignettes on the Fitzgeralds, Steve Cooney and Damon Harvey, Beau and Nat Young, legendary board builder Joe Larkin, innovative photographer Dave Kelly and Matt McHugh from the Beautiful Girls. There are the pervading themes of inter-generational surfing, and the stoke of passing on your love of the ocean to your kin, and more exploration of the surfing/music synergy. But this film also has something poignant to say about loss and how great art can be born from grief, and that's a precious message to share.Terry Fitzgerald, enjoying a new burst of shaping inspiration thanks to his talented surfing sons riding his '70s boards, points out: "Surfing needs to have variables, it needs to have variation. It needs to have more than just ... the high performance side of the sport because surfing is more than 10 points and $100,000. For most people it's a take off, two turns and a wipe out and that's what they've got to get through the week."Music by: Andrew Kidman, Band of Frequencies, Nicko, Afro Dizzi Act, Milton Brown, Birds from Windy Hill, Will Corner, The beautiful Girls.</itunes:summary>

He surfs in his home waters to his own guitar playing - guitar playing we recorded during a backyard jam in Victoria. <itunes:summary>The sport of surfing has long been associated with Polynesia, having been first described by Europeans as far back as 1777, during Captain James Cook's epic voyage of discovery throughout the Pacific. However, the question has been asked, what had been happening in the waves on other shores, with their own coastal cultures? To find the answer, Sam George - co-writer of the hit documentary Riding Giants, former editor of Surfer, and longtime surf explorer - leads this first-of-its-kind surfari. The Lost Wave documents the quest undertaken by George and fellow adventurers as they travel to an island off the wild coast of the Dark Continent to examine the origins of West African wave-riding. The Lost Wave represents a new sort of surf trip in which the riding of waves is portrayed in a broader context than the mere pursuit of fun. Accompanied by professional surfers, Holly Beck and Joe Curren, the team travels to the remote island nation of Sao Tome, off the coast of Gabon, West Africa, where the vibrant, scenic beauty belies a history steeped in centuries of slavery and colonial oppression. George had visited the island six years earlier but had been unable to ascertain the origins of a surf culture where African villagers rode waves on gofffe wood rafts, having never before encountered a contemporary surfer. In The Lost Wave George returns and documents a history-making, first-hand account of the multi-generational, wave riding culture of the village of Porto Allegre. He also finds that, inspired by his original visit, the villagers now ride waves on rough-hewn wood versions of a modern surfboard, alongside their own indigenous surf craft as part of a full-fledged African surf culture.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In the post Slater competitive era many pro surfers are in striking distance of the World Championship. Sunny Garcia, a fourteen-year veteran of the ASP tour, has persevered throughout his career and now leads the pack in the field of challengers.Garcia has a new fire in his approach and explains what ignited him.His momentum started in 1999 when he won his fourth Triple Crown, equaling only fellow Hawaiian, Derek Ho. As the 2000 tour got under way Sunny blazed out the gate. Winning the Billabong contest at Kirra, he then moved on to the Bells Beach contest for his turn to ring the chimes.Garcia's strength and stamina carried him into the next leg of the tour. Descent finishes in Tahiti and in Fiji kept a lock on his number one standing.Coming into the summer months on the tour found Garcia in California tuning up his small wave surfing and checking out some of his new Back Yard Boards.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Australia's Gold Coast in the southeast corner of Queensland is known for hollow waves on perfect sandbars. Some of these waves are man made and South Stradbroke Island is one of these spots. Progressive longboard surfing is being pushed deeper into the barrel and many of the sports best show up to have a go whenever Stratty turns on.The tube is what surfers consider the ultimate proving ground and they are always in search of it. Although the boards these guys ride may be bigger than the waves themselves, progressive longboarding always has a legitimate spot in the line-up and South Stradbroke Island offers the venue to test the stress.</itunes:summary>
